About Us

The Junior League: women around the world as catalysts for lasting community change.

The Junior League of Sioux Falls (JLSF) exists to ensure that women, children and the elderly have opportunities and services essential for optimal physical, intellectual, emotional, mental and social growth. JLSF will advocate to see that such opportunities and services are provided. JLSF also promotes environmental awareness and encourages, through education, advocacy and action, responsibility in the attainment of a safer, cleaner and healthier environment in order to protect and preserve the quality of life for future generations.

Junior League has been in the Sioux Falls community for 40 years. We are part of the Association of Junior Leagues International, which is made up of almost 155,000 with 292 Junior Leagues in four countries across the globe.

Our Mission is three-fold:

  • The Junior League is a volunteer organization for women interested in making a positive impact in their communities.
  • Junior League develops the potential of women through leadership training so that they are equipped to take action to improve communities.
  • Junior League members are accomplished collaborators who build coalitions, identify community needs, and develop effective and responsive programs to serve those needs.

ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING (Adopted February 21, 2013)
The Junior League of Sioux Falls opposes human trafficking in all its forms. JLSF supports programs and legislation that create criminal and civil penalties for those who perpetuate modern slavery. We support the education of law enforcement agencies on how to identify human trafficking victims and to ensure that victims are not treated as criminals, but are referred to the proper organizations to get the assistance and support they need. We are committed to educating our membership and the greater community on this issue.

Call it the 'Multiplier Effect'.

While Junior Leagues are known for their work at the community level, some of the League programs that have had the largest impact came from shared initiatives designed to address national problems.

“One League out of 292 can make a difference in its own community, but harness the power of 292 Junior Leagues and you can make a big difference around the world,” says Delly Beekman, Past President of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. “The Leagues are never more powerful than when acting together, toward a common goal.”

There are many great examples of what individual Junior Leagues and Junior League State Public Affairs Committees (SPACs) are doing to fight human trafficking. The challenges facing us in eradicating human trafficking are many and complex, due in part to deep cultural and economic factors that fuel this epidemic. Junior Leagues and SPACs began researching the issue of human trafficking more than 10 years ago.
