PROJECTS
The
Junior League of Sioux Falls, originally established as the Junior Service
League, was formed in 1978, and was accepted into the Association of
Junior Leagues International, Inc. in 1985. Since this time, members have
raised more than $235,000 for the Sioux Falls area. Each year, more than
150 members contribute more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service.
Through the vision and dedication of its members, JLSF works to fill a
variety of needs. Research and close contact with community advisors keep
the Junior League in touch with the issues.
- The
Ronald McDonald House, a home-away-from-home for families of children
with long-term illnesses, stands as an example of the ability of the
JLSF to mobilize volunteers to develop a new project.
- Over
a decade ago, the JLSF started the Race for the Cure to help raise
funds for the fight against breast cancer and to raise the public's
awareness of the detection and treatment of the disease.
- JLSF
has entertained and educated thousands of children through the Junior
League Children's Studio in the Washington Pavilion of Arts and
Sciences, created to provide interactive art activities for children
of all ages.
- JLSF
can respond quickly to community needs with financial assistance or
through "Done in a Day" projects.
