Promoting Voluntarism
-
Collaborated with the
Help!Line Center for training on volunteers and making the most of
member involvement
-
Hosted "The Furniture Idea at
Norwalk" on May 19, 2008 with a national designer and proceeds
supporting JLSF
-
Fourteen new members
completed their Provisional training and became active members
-
Moved the office space to a
new location which provided opportunities to conduct BOD and committee
meetings in the new space
-
Held a Road Rally in October
for the GMM so that members could tour our current project (Teddy Bear
Den) and past projects (CASA and the Ronald McDonald house)
Developing the
Potential of Women

Dawn Stenberg and Suzanne
Veenis attended the AJLI Fall Leadership Conference in October 2007

Teresa Timmerman, Jenny
Tiehen, Sara Wildermuth and Sarah Hueners attended ODI in March 2008

The Communications committee
received training to use Publisher to print the LiveWire and meet
other League communications needs
-
Pamela Kreber represented
JLSF in the Chamber sponsored "Leadership Sioux Falls" program
-
The Junior League of Sioux
Falls Memorial and Tribute Fund Scholarship was established with the
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation. Funds will be used to benefit local
college bound women who have demonstrated a commitment to their
communities through volunteering
Improving Community
-
The 2nd annual Pumps,
Pearls, Purses and Moore fundraiser was held in January 2008.
The event netted $20,000 with 280 attendees enjoying a night of James
Bond fun
-
Fifteen members volunteered for the 3rd annual "Kids in the
Kitchen" in March 2008. The Banquet facility was used to host 52
children who learned about nutrition and exercise
-
Twenty five members were given a two hour training session
before beginning to assist at the Teddy Bear Den. JLSF has
helped the Teddy Bear Den twice a month for a total of 24 volunteer
hours and donated $5000 toward their "Cribs for Kids" program
-
JLSF approved a two year project collaborating with the
Ronald McDonald House Charities for the completion of their Sanford
and Avera Ronald McDonald homes. This commitment to "make the
house a home" focuses on furnishing the homes.
-
The first "Designer ShowHouse" will be held in the summer
of 2008. Fourteen design firms have graciously donated their
designer's knowledge, time, energy and furnishings to support this
fundraiser.
